Power Director takes a LONG time to load. Over an hour to load it, and its supplemental programs, and to register them, and get updates. It's a fat program with fat updates (nearly 2 gigs total).

During the download, Power Director wanted to also download Apple Quick Time, but I declined. I don't care for Apple, but Power Director apparently likes Quick Time. It may be that, if you prefer working in Quick Time, Power Director is especially friendly in that environment.

And you MUST have Quick Time if you want to use some of Power Director's features, such as Smart Sound (which helps you download and add music to your video). But you can import music, taken from other sources, to Power Director, so you don't need its Smart Sound feature.

You MUST register all three programs (Power Director, Audio Director, Color Director) separately, with serial number and email address, if you want them updated, access to user forums (if you need to ask questions), and free audio and visual effects downloads.

Registration also requires that you provide your birthdate, but you can lie about that.

They have hundreds of templates -- I downloaded a few horror and Halloween specific title card templates for my Halloween home movies. They're generic, but they're cute for the casual user. Pros will want to create their own title cards.

One nice thing about Power Director for the casual user is that when you open the program, you can decide whether you want the Easy Editor or Full Feature mode.

There's not much you can do in the Easy Editor mode. You can pick a Style for the opening title card, add background music, and adjust the video's length. Easy Editor might be enough for a YouTube home video, but even casual users will usually use the Full Feature mode.

The Full Feature mode comes with many effects. One of my favorites as a casual user is the Magic Fix feature which stabilizes shaky cameras.

As a casual user, I still prefer Corel Pro Video Studio X5. But I appreciate Audio Director's Equalization abilities, and I'll likely dabble in Power Director's Full Feature offerings over time, as I gain more experience.

One advantage of Corel Video Studio is that it can Capture videos playing on your computer screen. Power Director can't, but it has many other Capture modes: DV camcorder, HDV camcorder, TV signal, digital TV signal, webcam, audio microphone, CD, \\"external or optical device.\\"ut Power Director apparently likes Quick Time. The print for the Arabic vocabulary was too small. I need a magnifying glass to try to read it. The whole point of a dictionary is to make the print EASY to read. Perhaps if more room was given to print than to pictures, it would have been more easily readable. I was disappointed, and was sorry to have bought it. 2013-01-11
